About Us: Who We Are

T. Peter Toll Jr. founded Family Heritage First to serve families and individuals in preserving the rich values and insights reflected in their personal stories and family history. A Certified Wealth Consultant (CWC) with The Heritage Institute, Peter has been a financial advisor in private practice since 1994. His background also includes journalism, free-lance writing, and legislative staff service in Oregon and California.

Peter is past-president of the Financial Planning Assn. of Oregon and SW Washington; serves on three non-profit boards; is current treasurer of the Portland chapter of the Association of Personal Historians, and serves on the Legacy Planning Committee of Wabash College, his alma mater. He is married, with three children and six grandchildren. An avid traveler, Peter lives in West Linn near Portland, Oregon.

Laszlo Bencze has always had a "knack" for photography. His work ranges from portraiture to industrial imagery to landscape photography for clients including Baxter Health Care, Boeing, Jack Daniels, Nordstrom, Mesirow Financial, and Intel, among many others. He loves his work because he loves meeting interesting and remarkable people whose measure of success goes far beyond financial status, who love doing what they do as much as he loves taking pictures. Lisa Kagan is an artist, designer, writer, and arts educator whose work celebrates the human spirit through a transformative artistic process. Lisa works with families and individuals to create Family Heirloom Art including illustrated family history books, custom paintings, and photography essays and montages. She believes preserving family history is essential to honoring our ancestors, understanding our relationship to our own lives, and sharing the wisdom and experiences of the past with future generations. Betsy Toll works with individual clients to create personal and family vision statements, and also writes, edits, and coordinates development of newsletters and brochures for non-profit organizations and businesses. Her lifelong affinity for personal stories and oral history was honed working in theater and film in Los Angeles and New York, and further enriched through hospice and bereavement volunteering. Over the years, her essays have appeared in numerous regional publications. Betsy has participated in trainings with The Heritage Institute with brother Peter. She lives in Portland with her husband and two children.

Beverly Warren-Leigh is a professional graphic designer and videographer. She designs for print and video and does her own camera work and editing for small documentary films. She has recently authored Red Letter Days, a two-volume book and DVD about a WWII veteran. An experienced art director in New York and Southern California, Bev has also produced smaller books for families. Part of a large family herself, Bev is passionate about preserving family relationships and values. She makes her home in Portland, OR.
